Otaku Slang: Why Do Anime Fans Call Merchandise 'Guzis'?

Why is the second dimension considered subculture or niche culture in the third dimension? One of the reasons is the lingo of the second dimension. Especially for newbies who accidentally enter second-dimension forums or conventions, they will always see some strange and incomprehensible words.

What is  "Guzi"?

These words could originally be expressed in plain and understandable language, but that would be very verbose, so the 'lingo' of the second dimension was born.Guzi, why do anime fans call anime-related peripherals 'Guzi'? This second-dimension 'lingo' is actually quite simple. It's because 'Guzi' is a transliteration of the English word "GOODS".

GOODS means merchandise and in the context of the second dimension often refers to ACG-related peripheral products. There are different types of 'Guzi': official Guzi, doujin Guzi, pirated Guzi, etc.Anime peripherals, as the name suggests, official Guzi are peripherals officially launched by anime creators. Doujin Guzi are peripherals made using fan art. Once 'Guzi' is explained, many anime fans can understand it immediately, but many related 'lingos' are difficult to understand. Just like 'fen shi', 'chengxin 1', and ALL, etc. When new anime fans want to buy Guzi and see terms like: small portions of Guzi, stable 2, nice ones up to 5, maybe up to 2 badge pulls, 2 rubber ones, 2 paper ones… seeking a dear mom, recruiting (ALL>fen shi>chengxin 1) ... after seeing these second-dimension 'lingos', many anime fans feel bewildered. So, what exactly do these 'lingos' related to second-dimension 'Guzi' mean? Guzi, 'chi gu' means buying peripherals.

What is  "Ba ji"?

'Ba ji' is the Japanese transliteration for badge. ALL means buying all roles in a set after it’s listed, 'fen shi' is when two or more 'moms' buy Guzi of one role. 'Moms' here refer to buyers, and they are called based on the Guzi they buy. 'Chengxin 1' means no matter how many listings, they only buy one from each, not more.Guzi, why is 'ALL>fen shi>chengxin 1'? Because for team leaders organizing group buys, being able to sell all of one role at once (ALL) is very convenient and trouble-free. Especially for some more niche second-dimension roles. This way, team leaders don’t worry about unsold pieces. 'Large appetite', generous people are welcomed everywhere. If there’s an unsold piece, it will have to be 'bundled'. When buying popular roles, they are sold together with less popular roles.Ba Ji, after Guzi is bought, it also needs maintenance, just like sometimes after buying a badge, a badge cover is needed.

A badge cover is a cover for the badge to prevent surface damage. Since badges tend to rust easily, besides a badge cover, a better way to store them is using a sealed bag with a desiccant.
